Bald Eagle

This majestic bird nests along sea coasts, major waterways and lakes. Dining mostly on fish, the bald eagle builds large nests on the tops of trees or on cliffs. Eagles return to the same nest year after year. Although these birds live a long life and lay two eggs every year, more die every year than are born. Destruction of trees and contamination of the bald eagle's prey by toxic chemicals are the main causes of this incredible bird's decline. Many projects are helping protect these eagles and they have recently been removed from the endangered species list to the "threatened" list.
